There is online outrage circulating facebook and the internet at the moment at this story. This story confirms so many of our fears about the music industry or any situation where big business meets the little guy… what happens? The little guy gets squished. Many people have discussed the necessity of knowing the industry that you are in, this of course has been expressed in less understanding words. I agree with this on some level, but the responsibility that comes with knowledge about how an industry works should be used to foster talent, not churn up and spit out people like a hamburger factory. In this situation, people don’t get the straight story from big business, and this… no matter what his knowledge, is unfair.
OH boy do I love stories like this… The RIAA (read Ripoff Industry of Arrogant Asses) agreed to a settlement with a client they were in the process of suing. They agreed to a fine for the apparent misdemeanors, however when the final papers were handed in the RIAA(insert above text here) had DOUBLED THE FINE for no particular reason apart from their opinion that it ‘wasn’t ENOUGH’
Now of course the Judge who has a previous record of Kicking the ass of the RIAA when they assume the law owes them just happened to be the judge presiding over this trial…. BIG OOPS. The Judge all but threw them in Jail for their stupid stunt.
Thank goodness the law is getting just as sick of the petty tactics of the RIAA, while the public is sick of fine harvesting and the musicians are disillusioned with RIAA support.
Um… today’s post seems a little extreme.
The article talks about how some students are dropping out of school to cover the vicious fines that the RIAA has been posting out to universities.
The whole story seems a little over the top, but still… if its on the internet or in the news then it must be true.
