Larry Weir and the Spins Tracking system

Our friends over at Ripoffreport.com cover many scams and ocasionally there is an article that is relevant to our industry.

This article talks about a highly sophisticated bogus radio scam that targets musicians willing to pay to have their music played on a collection of radio stations which create their own music charts with some of the biggest names in current music.

Sounds good you say, what is the scam? the radio statons aren’t hat they are presented as, some of them exist but many of them are not music stations or only play music at specific times.

Read more about the scam here.

matt.

edit: This article is still developing as there is contention about whether or not this is a legitimate complaint or just one angry consumer. What have been your experiences with the exposure that comes from using NRP?

  1. Hello.

I am the owner of an Internet radio station called “Beauty From Ashes Radio.” We are a reporter for Spins Tracking System. We report to the Indie Chart, College section. Why? Because we play music. I suggest you do a bit of research before calling somebody a ‘rip off.’

This blog was started to keep artists informed -the report itself is quite old and as I’m sure you’ve noticed over at the RipoffReport that there is some more commenting starting to happen.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to this short post. What I am most interested in is how it relates to musicians. I noticed in the article on ripoff report that they don’t list ALL radio stations as being dodgy, this would allow for legitimate stations such as yourself.

Maybe the focus should be more on how transparent the marketing is about what to expect from a system like Spins.

  3. I don’t know how new STS is but from looking at the site really it doesn’t seem to be that fresh out of the box. I really believe that any new reporting site such as STS is going to come under fire from critques just because it is new. Does Radio & Records come under fire? I don’t know but I do know they have been around for quite a long time. I could post over at ripoffreport however I am under the impression that I would probably be torn in two because my view does not meet theirs.

  4. The internet is Not radio true heart. Radio is a wave u retard. All radio is licensed through the FCC. Michael, are you licensed through the FCC? No u say? Then you’re not a radio station. You own a webpage with a player.
